Budapest, Hungary 4/7-4/9/2016
We started our trip to Budapest on the afternoon of April 6 after we left Zagreb, Croatia. As we drove into the center of Budapest, we were absolutely excited! It was BEAUTIFUL everywhere we looked! Before daddy googled images of Budapest, we honestly had no idea that it could even compare to countries that we've been to already. Due to movies like A Night at the Museum, we thought Budapest was an old school city filled with Native American looking people. We were ABSOLUTELY WRONG! Budapest was a city filled with historical and grand architecture, mixed with modern restaurants/cafes/hotels, and very European looking locals. It was by far our favorite city to be in.
Our first night in Budapest we checked into our hotel and was immediately in love with what we saw just around the corner. It was a street upon street of the most innovative and uniquely designed bars and restaurants! We compared to an upscale 6th street in Austin except it was a mixture of places to drink, eat, and shop. Unfortunately, it was Day 2 of Jordy not feeling well but we were all troopers and decided to stick to our plans of doing dinner in a bbq restaurant. We had great food and drinks :) Jordy was doing good for the most part until after we paid for dinner. The restaurant had a very "bbq" feel to it with loud music, dark lighting, and very busy environment. We sat a table that had the ability to see the ground floor due to the grated floor area. As we were about to leave the table, Jordy started grabbing his tummy and crying. He was crying so much that he threw up straight to the bottom ground level! Fortunately/unfortunately, he was standing by the grated floor and all his throw up went straight through! It was definitely our signal that it was time to go! We decided to call it a night and let you boys rest and hopefully Jordy would feel better the next day since we planned to see more of the city!
Day 1: Daddy had a full schedule to hit the biggest tourist spots in Budapest. We began the day by going to Heroe's Square then walked over to Vajdahunyad Castle and then walked to the nearby park that was the most fun park we have all ever been to. There was a trampoline area that you boys absolutely enjoyed. Even though Jordy had moments of pain from being sick, you still managed to enjoy the park with big brother Jace. Jace carried his new wooden flute we bought you from Croatia and kept playing it as we toured the different places today. It was so cute! We did a lot of walking today but you boys did great!
Day 2: We wanted to make sure that you both had your turn to enjoy Budapest and we went to Aquaworld. Unfortunately, Jordy was still sick but seemed a little better so we decided to press forward with our plans for the day. The indoor waterpark was even better than Atlantis indoor waterpark in Slovenia. It had a Mayan theme for the pool area. There were multiple pools, water slides, a wave pool, and even an area for learning how to surf. Jordy played in a the water for a little bit but because he wasn't 100% he preferred to be carried with a towel over him. Jace loved the kiddie pool area and kept going down the water slide over and over. You (Jace) wanted to slide down the slide with tubes to go in with daddy but unfortunately you were still too small. You cried and cried when you were turned away. We felt so sad for you! However, you decided to just keep going down the water slides again. Daddy and I also took advantage and took turns getting our massages while being there :) After the waterpark, we decided to tour the Parliament and walk along the Danube river. You boys enjoyed running around the grounds of the Parliament and watching the soldiers nearby. Daddy wanted to climb along side the Chain Bridge we saw and I absolutely would not let him! Thank goodness you boys were not old enough to egg him on ;p After a whole afternoon of walking and touring more beautiful places, we decided to eat dinner at beautiful restaurant that overlooks the Vajdahunyad Castle. It was another epic day in Budapest!
Day 3: Our last day in Budapest was originally supposed to be a short one. However, daddy wanted us to take full advantage of our last day there and decided to tour one more castle he saw online. Thank goodness, Jordy seemed to be 100% better today! Before we went to our last castle, we decided to check out the indoor market called Central Market Hall. It was the biggest and most "organized" market we have been to. All the vendors that would sell any type of souvenirs were all found in one place. We had a great time and thankfully we did not have a lot of cash on us or else we would have bought so much more! After the market, we saw an opportunity to take a "quick" hike to the top of this big hill to see a great panoramic view of the city. About 2 hours later (hahaha) we were able to get a gorgeous view of the city from one of the highest points in Budapest. Our last stop was Fisherman's Bastion where we saw our last castle along with other beautiful architecture and buildings. We wish we had spent a whole day there instead of just a few hours. You both were exhausted and fell asleep half way through our stroll through here! All in all, we could not have picked a better place to spend almost a week in. Budapest has our heart!
